It starts herbal and cool: mint, sage and bergamot, with the feel of a freshly cut leaf. Then green tea and papyrus come in, drier and more vegetal, and a caramel note that is barely noticeable at first and gradually gains weight. It ends on a base of amber, sandalwood and vanilla sugar that rounds out the green notes without covering them up.
Herbal Aquatica is an aromatic fougère perfume from Montale, in eau de parfum concentration, launched in 2022. The house places it on the banks of the Nile, among lotus flower, papyrus and a breeze with sage, and on its intensity scale it is marked as strong. Montale was born in Paris in 2003, when Pierre Montale returned from the East with oud as his great discovery; this perfume shows the house's other side, the green and fresh one.
It works well in spring and summer, and during the day, when green notes read best. Montale suggests combining two of its fragrances to create a personal signature: Herbal Aquatica shares bergamot and sage with Wood & Spices, which adds tobacco and teak wood, and bergamot with Cedrat Lova, which takes it toward citron and ginger.
