Do you want to know more about this perfume?
Acqua di Sale by Profumum Roma captures the soul of the Mediterranean with three materials and nothing more. It opens with seaweed: a salty, mineral accord that is literally the smell of the air by the water. It is not a citrus or a sweet aquatic note like the ones that abound in summer perfumes. It is salt.
The heart is myrtle, the aromatic plant that grows on the Mediterranean coast and provides the bridge between sea and land: green, dry, slightly balsamic. It is what keeps the fragrance from becoming just a marine exercise and gives it the character of a landscape.
The base is cedarwood, alone. It closes the structure with a dry, clean trail, the perfume’s horizon line. No amber, no sweet musks: where other beach perfumes turn gourmand, this one turns mineral.
Three notes, and why that matters
Profumum Roma builds its fragrances with very short lists, and Acqua di Sale is the extreme example: seaweed, myrtle, and cedar. That brevity is not decorative minimalism, it is a formulation choice. With three materials at extrait concentration, each one is perceived clearly and the evolution can be followed note by note on the skin, something that does not happen when a pyramid declares fifteen ingredients.
Olfactory Family
The house classifies it within its Mediterranean family, and that is the most accurate label it can have. It is not an aquatic that imitates the breeze with fresh synthetic notes, nor a woody that leans on sandalwood: it is the smell of a specific coastline, with its salt, its scrub, and its dry wood.
How it unfolds on the skin
The first impression is the most striking: the salty accord hits at once and throws off anyone expecting a sweet perfume. Within a few minutes the myrtle comes forward and the fragrance becomes greener, more herbal, less literal. The cedar takes longer to appear and is what stays: dry, noble, without sugar. It is a perfume that moves away rather than envelops, and that is where its character lies.
From 1996, and still in the catalog
Profumum Roma launched it in 1996 and it has remained in the collection ever since, without ever being reformulated, which in niche perfumery is a seal of approval in itself. Thirty years later, it remains the benchmark against which any marine perfume aspiring to be more than just sunscreen is measured.
Is Acqua di Sale sold in 18 ml?
Yes. In addition to the 100 ml bottle, we also have it in 18 ml, a convenient size to carry with you, travel with, or try at your own pace before moving on to the full-size bottle.
Does it smell sweet, like other summer perfumes?
No. The salty accord in the opening and the dry cedar in the base take it in a mineral direction, not a gourmand one. If you're looking for a sweet solar scent with vanilla or coconut, you won't find it here.
